IN MEMORY OF ALBERT ARMENDARIZ, MALDEF FOUNDER

El Paso, Texas (AP) _ Judge Albert died of natural causes this week at 88 years of age in

a Brownsville rest home. Family members expressed how passionate he was about civil rights and how he affected his children and all those around him with it.

Mr. Armendariz began as an activist with LULAC in 1951. In the late 60’s he and other attorneys founded MALDEF, Mexican American Legal Defense Fund. He spent his life defending rights of Hispanics.

Born in El Paso he did his military service during WWII at Ft.Bliss. Armendariz received his law degree from UCLA and served as a judge from 1976 until his retirement.
