Des Moines, Ia.,_ While the rest of the country is winding down for the holidays presidential contenders are sloshing thru Iowa and New Hampshire, with quick trips to South Carolina and Nevada. Positioning, posturing and pushback are their watchwords.

The Des Moines Register’s poll this week shows Barack Obama leading Democrats and Mike Huckabee leading Republicans. Obama was three points ahead of Hillary Clinton 28-25, John Edwards at 23 and Bill Richardson 10. Huckabee leads Mitt Romney 29-24 and Rudy Giuliani is at 13.  This poll by the state’s largest newspaper was conducted of 500 likely Iowa caucus goers.

Huckabee says his campaign is on fire due to his underdog status while Obama’s message of change and superior field organizing forces have him out front.

Romney lost five points and the lead since the last poll and Huckabee is leading him 38-22 among born again conservatives.  This may be a key reason why Romney will be delivering a speech on his Mormon Church membership, but count on him to hedge it as do most politicians on most issues.
