Manchester, N.H.,_California’s Clinton Campaign Co-Chair and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa joined several other Latino leaders in a little noticed effort to court Latino voters in the Granite State this week. Operating pretty much under the radar the group dove into the small (6% of state’s population) but growing Hispanic community and as has been the case in most places, won a majority of support for Senator Hillary Clinton. LEL still believes Clinton will become Commandher in Chief and it is our hope that Villaraigosa and others can persuade her to take on a friendlier attitude on immigration and driver’s license issues than she and all other candidates, with the lone exceptions of McCain and Richardson, have displayed thus far in the campaign season.
Villaraigosa joined New York state assemblymen Jose Rivera and Adrian Espaillat in meetings with Latino businesses, associations and churches urging support for Clinton. Their message was simple: Senator Clinton is ready to lead this country and she is well versed in Latino issues – “If you are not going to vote no one can respect you. You should also go vote for those who can’t who can’t because they are undocumented.” Antonio is right! Not only is GOTV a good thing but here is no law against getting others to vote!
