Clinton Obama Court CA most Powerful Latina
Los Angeles, Ca._ As Latino voters take center stage for the first time in national presidential politics the Democrats are especially excited about turn out and difference making performance in California. Dem candidates are courting Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina, arguably the most powerful elected official in the Latino Community anywhere in America.
Molina has been a player since the 70s and 80s. She came out of the early East LA political machine and after normal political differences started her own powerful political operation which produced Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
Initially a Bill “Lopez” Richardson supporter she is now being courted by the Clinton and Obama campaigns. Bill Clinton and Mayor Villaraigosa have called her and Barack Obama is sure to be calling her soon. Molina is not interested in administration positions or convention preference; that’s how strong she is today. Not since the 1988 convention has she needed to ask for a super delegate position. Her issues are Latino issues. Though she has history with and admires the Clintons she is impressed with Obama’s appeal to young people. Gloria will gauge the situation and weigh in before the February 5 election and her choice will likely win California and the nomination.
