FEDS WANT TO PART THE BORDER IN MIDDLE OF UT Brownsville
Brownsville, Texas,_ As the anti immigrant rage fades with every Republican immigrant basher having been tapped to “sit down” for the rest of this year’s presidential race look for more holes to be poked in the proposed 2200 mile border fence. The DC follies are not just restricted to war, mortgages and the overall economy.
One part of the proposal being waged by Pendejo Party talk show hosts and lost legislators who don’t know the southern border is the fence being built right thru the University of Texas campus here.
One has to wonder if what might otherwise be a joke the “think tankers” who see brilliance in building our version of the Berlin wall (fear anyone?) have devised a Mexican version of the UT in Matamoros – complete with co adminstradores and two-way “migra” turnstiles between campus buildings. Department of Homeland Security officials have asked to go onto campus to study how they would carry out this land plan.
This move is being opposed by UTB President Juliet Garcia, who did not approve the permits putting the university in court with the DHS. Both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have expressed their opposition to this fundamental folly. Not lost in the irony is the apparent federal government wish that part of Texas revert to Mexico.
The United States has the right to protect its borders. The United States also has the right to go after criminals. And what people keep forgetting is that people who are here ILLEGALLY are criminals. They broke laws to get here and continue to break laws by staying here ILLEGALLY. I would never dream of going to another country and then whine because I didn’t think their laws were fair. If I didn’t like their laws, I would leave. But then, I would have also entered their country legally in the first place.
Stasmi, really people who come to this country illegally are criminals? I don’t get it. What you don’t get is that they contribute as much if not more to our country and our economy then you do. So relax and let the government worry about things that really matter.
Wow, your ability to rationalize just about anything is astounding. So now these illegals, who are breaking the law - so therefore are criminals - are more important and productive than legal citizens of the United States? I guess we should all drop to the ground and thank God for these people who don’t give a damn about U.S. laws. To show our support for those who don’t think the U.S. legal system is important, maybe we should all stop paying taxes? Hey, that’s a law that most people don’t like, but most of us still find a way to abide by it. Why is it okay to break laws that you don’t find important but not okay to break other laws? If protecting our borders and simply asking those who want to live here to abide by our laws isn’t important, then I don’t know what is.
Some of what you say is true, people should recognize our laws. However who is going to do the jobs they come and take? I know I won’t ever want to pick our food and clean up after myself when I go to a restaurant. Yes the US grants work visas to people from other countries, however this doesn’t apply to agriculture. So how do you suggest we create a workforce to fill these positions if we won’t let those who are willing to do the work? What exactly do we need to protect our borders from?
How about expecting all these people, who take great risks crossing borders and paying to get smuggled in, to do the right thing and to take the time to fill out the paperwork, get visas and enter the country LEGALLY? If they have the paperwork, they don’t have to risk their lives to get here. Let the government know who they are, where they are from. Let them be able to get drivers licenses legally. Let them pay taxes and get jobs where they can receive benefits so they aren’t bogging down our health system. If they are paying taxes and being productive citizens, then perhaps more money can be spent teaching them English and getting them prepared for life in the U.S. I have absolutely no problem with anyone from any country, of any nationality wanting to live here. All I ask is that it is done legally and by the laws of the United States.
“Protecting our borders” is a broad statement, but basically it means that we need to know who is entering our country. Unfortunately, in this day and age, when there are too many people wanting to do a lot of harm to citizens of the U.S., the government needs to know who and what are coming in and have records of it.
And as for all the jobs that illegals do that nobody else wants to do, they can still do it - but again, how about doing it legally? This is where the U.S. government needs to get on the ball and start working harder to get the appropriate visas out there. The government isn’t faultless on this, and unfortunately, politicians are pretty ineffective. Democrats are worrying too much about alienating the Hispanic vote by wanting to deal with this and Republicans like to scare the crap out of voters - thus creating an atmosphere of fear and hate.
Do I think that illegal immigrants are murdering, raping, pedophiles? No. Do I think that someone who breaks a law is a criminal? Yes. Do I believe that anyone who wants to live in the United States as a LEGAL citizen has the right to do so? Yes.
