CONCACAF U23 Olympic - United States v. Canada Recap

U.S.A. U23 3-0 Canada U23 - Final

Through the first 78 minutes of this match Team U.S.A. equaled their offensive output for the rest of the CONCACAF U23 Olympic qualifying tournament. Freddy Adu showed all of the promise we had heard about since he was 14 years old. Scoring on two marvelously placed free kicks that would have made Beckham him self say “Damn.” The first was a wonderfully thought out strike that started curving towards the near post, however when the goalie made his move to the post the ball bounced just before him and with the amount of spin the ball changed direction and bounced just past the keepers reach. Luckily for me I have a DVR and I rewound that shot several times and am still amazed by what happened. This match was all the way of the United States as they controlled the midfield throughout the game and created several chances that they just could not capitalize on. Until early in the second half when Jozy Altidore was tackled just outside of the box and set up another free kick for Freddy Adu. This time there was no bounce and the goal was just as impressive as he lifted the ball just over the wall and left enough spin to get the ball to drop under the cross bar. This strike was so efficient the goalie didn’t even make an attempt on the ball. Finally in the 78th minute Sacha Kljestan recieved a well placed ball from Stuat Holden that left him with only the keeper to beat, which he did with ease. So congratulations to Team U.S.A. and even though the final of this tournament is merely for pride, I want our side to win.
