San Jose, Ca.,_ Anyone who has ever attended a California Democratic Party convention has seen him. The larger than life sized, 6’3”, Latino leader from Riverside has been on the state and national political scene since the mid 1960’s when he was a farmworker turned student who came in contact and camaraderie with top Latino leaders of that time.
He walked and worked with Cesar Chavez, stood with Bert Corona and worked side by side with Mario Obledo. Steven “Steve” Ybarra is a super Latino leader in every respect.
The mater of fact speaking Ybarra is too often overlooked by Democratic elitists who don’t understand his value or the extent of his personal reach into any and every Latino community in California. Latinos in politics know, admire and respect him. After graduating from USC law school he went on to be a key player in Jerry Brown’s administration and later moved and practiced international in American Samoa. The tri lingual Ybarra knows people, political strategy and the power of vote by mail. He is a relentless battler for the people and things in which he believes. We are lucky to have him in our ranks. Barack Obama has called a couple of times and Bill Clinton met with him on Sunday. They, like anyone seeking his support, are met with one question, “What have you done and are you doing for Latinos?” Campaigns who meet that test will get his full support. Steven Ybarra is a true hero of his times.

The problem with this guy is that all he can think about is latino people. Dr. Martin Luther King thought about EVERYBODY. You want to know who will do something for latinos? Think about someone else for once and maybe latinos will get something in return. Selfishness is never a good thing. Besides, what does this country owe latinos?
The problem with this guy is his preoccupation with what noone is doing for latinos. Dr. Martin Luther King did what he did for everyone, not just blacks. Cesar Chavez only fought for issues that affected hispanics (field workers). Try thinking about other people for once and not just your own and maybe latino people will get something in return. Selfishness is never a good thing. Besides, what does this country owe latinos anyway?
I’m not really sure why you would rant about Cesar Chavez on this post, since there are many others to choose from, but he was about all people. Mexicans and Latinos aren’t the only ones who work in fields by the way. If you knew anything about Cesar Chavez you would know that he wanted equality and justice for all poor people. Again Mexicans aren’t the only poor people in this country. Also Chavez didn’t feel Latinos were owed anything, just that Humans deserved to be treated as such.
Hello, Michael. This is sick and tired in California. I choose Cesar Chavez because he is a latino leader that gets a lot of recognition here in California. And for what? Improving field conditions for Mexicans? Big deal. Yes, Cesar Chavez was all about people, mexican ones! And that is the impression that I and many of the people I associate with have. In my response, I didn’t say anything about mexicans being poor. But, since you brought up the subject…… don’t we have enough poor people in this country? Why do we need more from Mexico?
Sick and tired? More like ignorant and can’t read. At no time did you even come close to a coherent response to what I said. So I would like to apologize for assuming that you could read or have a rational adult conversation
Oh, poor Michael. Whatever! I guess you couldn’t think of anything to say so you resorted to personal insults and attacks. Anyway, you know everything I said is true. If you read more closely, you’ll see that I answered everything you addressed and then some. Have a nice day!
Sick and tired, yes you did respond to my comment but you were way off base on everything you said. Since you seem to need it I’ll lay it all out, and don’t worry I’ll use small words.
I asked,
The reason I asked that is because this story that your first comment was on is about Steven Ybarra, a super delegate from CA. Yes Cesar Chavez is mentioned in the article but it isn’t about him. Your Response,
Yes you did respond but your answer has nothing to do with what I asked so you didn’t answer my question.
Are you ready for the next one?
I said
What I was saying there is responding to your statement that
Do you see what I did there? You had a previous misconception and I corrected you. then you said
So after I gave you the answer you still got it wrong. I understood that you were going off of bad information so I tried to give you the correct information and you couldn’t compute it properly. So I’ll tell you once more Cesar Chavez was for all people who are underpaid, undervalued and under-represented. maybe you will get it this time.
Lastly, oh I can’t wait for this one, you said
I didn’t say anything about Mexicans being poor either, I was once again trying to show you that Cesar Chavez was for all people not just Mexicans. Also you decided to bring up immigration, for what reason I do not know since that is a totally different issue. Too many times people try and associate Cesar Chavez with Illegal Immigration or even legal immigration, but Cesar Chavez was against illegal immigrants. It is well documented so the fact that you read the word “Mexican” and immediately think “illegal” shows your ignorance.
But since you brought up the subject, and I’m assuming that you’re a Republican, but since the 1960’s and before all the way up through today things have always been the same. Republicans get the most use out of illegal immigrants. A lot of illegals work in fields, who owns those fields and runs the corporations that own them? Republicans. More currently Republicans found a way around bringing in “illegals” by just deciding to send the jobs to Asia. So now they can start blaming Latinos for the weak economy when the real reason the economy sucks is because there are not enough jobs. And I’m not talking about the ones the “illegals are taking” cause I know I wouldn’t want to do those jobs and you don’t seem to be intelligent enough to tell an orange from a leaf, so that counts you out.
Michael, I’m not going to argue with you over your silly words. It is evident you are not going to face the reality of the negative effects of illegal immigrants from Mexico into this country, so I’ll just say this. If Mexicans want California back (and we all know that they do) I think we should give it to them and then build a wall around it! As far as intelligence goes, I can’t really respond because you sound like a raving lunatic, just like Steven Ybarra.
sick and tired, if you really read what I wrote then you would see that I never mentioned “my feelings or opinion” about immigration, I merely presented facts. It would be presumptuous to believe that I should tell you my opinion on any subject. All I did was give you some facts that you could use to make up your own mind. as far as Mexicans wanting California back, and I can’t speak for them cause I’m an American, but who wouldn’t want a territory that features one of the Worlds largest economies. Talk about negative impacts on our country.
I apologize for being educated and for using Facts in a disscussion, I didn’t know that is what makes someone crazy. I’ll just forget the truth about everything I know and start making s**t up.
I don’t know why you think you’re so intelligent. I stated facts as well, whether you want to acknowledge it or not. Even mexican americans think California is theirs, and continue to support illegal immigration. You’re educated all right. You sound like an educated fool! What a waste of money. Besides, people who are really intelligent don’t have to keep saying they are, over and over, like a broken record. Who are you trying to convince, Yourself?
