Ronaldinho out at Barcelona?

Recent grumblings would suggest that the Brazilian has fallen out of favor with FC Barcelona and that the club is planning on making changes in the near future. Txiki Bergiristain, the clubs technical secretary, has warned that the future of every player on the squad is up in the air -

‘There’s no need to make drastic decisions,’ he told Catalan TV programme Gol a Gol.

‘At the end of the season we’ll assess the effort, the age, the negative and positive progression of each player and from there we will put together a squad with desire and which isn’t waiting to recover but which instead is growing and determined to win titles. ‘If at the end of the year we haven’t been happy with the effort of individuals then we’ll decide if we want that player to continue or not, but now we can’t damage the group.’

On top of all of that comes this story Ronaldinho’s brother and representative Roberto De Assis had a meet with the directors of Premiership side Manchester City.

The Brazil forward, currently out injured, could leave the Camp Nou in the summer and his brother and representative Roberto De Assis was entertained at the City of Manchester stadium on Saturday by club directors ahead of the 2-0 defeat by Chelsea.

This news, expectedly was very exciting to the clubs manager Sven-Goran Eriksson

‘It was the first time I had heard such a thing, so I really hope it is true,’ said Eriksson.

‘We would be able to find a place in our team for him, I can guarantee that. ‘I will phone the owners. It was a surprise, but if they want to package Ronaldinho for me I would accept him and be very happy.’

While Ronaldinho has been out with an injury for a large part of this season, as well as not being quite the playmaker he once was, he still has a lot left in the tank. Any club that could get a player of his caliber should be excited at the level of skill and leadership he can bring. If you factor in how he may react to being cast aside by Barcelona that could lead to him playing a bit over his ability in a quest to prove all the critics wrong.
