Pink Panty Sheriff accused of anti-Latino bias
Phoenix, Arizona, _ In Arizona everyone is noticing the “sheriff has no clothes”. The good news is that even white residents are noticing the kick he gets out of selectively enforcing federal immigration laws in low income Latino neighborhoods without regard to the atmosphere of fear and danger he is causing to citizens and non citizens in those areas. In a recent letter to the editor in the Phoenix Republic Carl Maguine wrote,
“I don’t buy the argument that Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is only enforcing our laws in his recent “sweeps” through certain parts of the metro area. All the sweeps have been in lower income neighborhoods that are predomintly Hispanic. Why haven’t we seen any of his squads sweeping Scottsdale Fashion Square or Kierland Commons? I’m sure he can find many minor law infractions in these areas also. But that would involve arresting wealthy non-Hispanics. We certainly can’t do that.”
