Jeremiah Wright makes his case for patriotism
Washington, DC,_ In addresses to the NAACP and the Washington Press Club Barack Obama’s former pastor shared his feelings and answered questions candidly about his preaching style and the controversy surrounding him and Obama.
Wright was his usual up front self when he discussed his views on the black historic church and its relationship to white America. In an answer to one question regarding his patriotism he responded,
“I served six years in the U.S. military (marine corps). Does that speak to my patriotism? How many years did (VP) Cheney serve?”
Wright explained that many of his talks are out of context by people who’ve never heard him give a sermon or attended his church.
He also said Obama’s actions are explainable since “he is a politician and that’s what politicians do.”
Wright is not coordinating with the Obama campaign as he takes his remarks around the country. Former President Jimmy Carter believes that the issue may be around thru the fall but that it will fade as an issue. Jeremiah Wright did not fail to pass immigration reform and is not the cause of $4 plus per gallon of gas, the mortgage crisis or the ill advised and even less informed decision to wage war in Iraq.
Latino voters understand what it is like to be on the short end of society’s sticks and stones so this flap bothers us less than many others.
