Jorge Posada and Alex Rodriguez will miss time this season with different injuries.
Posada finally gave in to pain in his right shoulder which has been bothering him all season.
Jorge Posada’s shoulder injury does not appear to be season-threatening. That’s the early word on the New York Yankees catcher following an exam by Dr. James Andrews on Monday.
Posada was placed on the 15-day disabled list for the first time in his career on Monday, ending a remarkable run of durability at baseball’s most physically demanding position.
Anytime Dr. James Andrews is involved it usually isn’t a good sign, but luckily for Yankees fans it was good news this time. Jose Molina will take over at catcher for Posada while he is out.
Third basemen Alex Rodriguez has been bothered by a strained quadriceps.
Rodriguez, who has already missed three games in April because of the injury, said he felt a “pull” while running the bases against the Indians on Monday and told MLB.com there’s “no way” he could play Tuesday.
“The key for me now is to get healthy,” Rodriguez told the Web site. “There’s a lot of baseball to be played this year. When I get back out there, I want to be close to 100 percent.”
Maybe A-Rod has just decided to heed the advice of Charles Barkley. It was Sir Charles who sai, “A-Rod should just sit out the regular season, ’cause it only matters what he does in the playoffs.”
