A Taste of Lime
Anheuser Busch just released a new flavor, Bud Light Lime (which we shall now just refer to as Bud Lime). The new taste was shipped to stores on Monday and was available for sale yesterday May 1st, just in time for Cinco de Mayo.
Like most people I am a brand loyalist and one of those brands happens to be Bud Light. Which I have been a life long drinker, of course I only mean the part of my life after I turned 21. I have even been quoted as saying, “I only drink two kinds of beer, Bud Light… and free.”
So obviously I went out yesterday and bought myself a 12 pack of the new stuff.
When I first saw the ad for Bud Lime during the NCAA tournament I was sold. Almost enough that it made me feel better about North Carolina getting run out of the building by Kansas.
I had two initial feelings about the new addition to the Anheuser Busch family, if the formula is wrong it will be a disaster, but I tasted Miller Chill a while back and if Miller can make a decent tasting beer by adding lime flavor, Bud Lime must be at least better than that.
The first Bud Lime I tasted was pleasing, but it felt as though it was missing something. Once I figured out what it was I added some salt to the second. As I sat smoking a cigarette and drinking my salt and lime enhanced beer the only thing I could think of was being in Puerto Nuevo, Mexico.
For those who don’t know Puerto Nuevo is a small fishing town just south of Rosarito that is famous for the best tasting Lobster in the World. One side note, I’ve had Lobster of all kinds in many places and prepared many different ways and Puerto Nuevo Lobster is not only the best I’ve tasted but also my favorite meal. Normally when I venture down for an afternoon of Lobster, rice, beans and tortilla’s that will make you believe in heaven I order at least a few, ok maybe more than a few, Dos Equis’ which I then add lime and salt to.
Bud Lime tastes as good as a great Mexican beer (Dos Equis) and way better than an overrated one (Corona) even after the lime and salt have been added.
Although Bud Lime won’t, and probably can’t replace Bud Light as my go to beer, we here at LosEstadosLatinos.com give Bud Lime several tilts back as a legit beer to celebrate the anniversary of the Mexican victory at Puebla.
This was a good review! Its interesting how this beer gets marketed, and how also this is a kind of a trend lately with different lime-flavored beers coming out all the time.
Customizing this brew by adding some salt gives an interesting spin to the perception of this beer. One of the points made on another - is that it tasted kinda like a “7 up with a kick”. Maybe that’s why a touch of salt made this drink much better tasting? I mean, if we wanted a lime wine cooler we would just get that, right?
I think some more sampling is in order this week!
