De La Hoya v Forbes live updates
Oscar De La Hoya vs. Steve Forbes. The fight will start in a few minutes, here at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA. The national anthem of Mexico and the United States have been sung so now it’s fight time. De la Hoya has the height and weight advantage heading into this fight.
Round 1 -
Both fighters going back and forth with punches. Forbes is trying to neutralize De La Hoya’s jabs that he promised to throw many times during each round. Though Forbes threw more punches I say the round went to De La Hoya who landed the more powerful punches.
Round 2 -
De La Hoya started the round fighting hard. He attacks the body more than the face with jabs. It looks like it is going to start to do damage to Forbes. De La Hoya though still throwing those jabs he is connecting with a couple. Forbes looks like he isn’t ready for the onslaught of punches. This round goes to De La Hoya again.
Round 3 -
Forbes still comes in close getting some body shots from De La Hoya. He swings more towards his head as Oscar steps back to avoid the punches. Forbes throws a few shots at De La Hoya that don’t really land cleanly towards the head. It looks like both fighters want to see who has the faster hands in the fight. It looks like Oscar won the 3rd round also in this fight landing more punches though throwing less. Round De La Hoya.
Round 4 -
Forbes is throwing punches more like a brawler at De La Hoya. They’re starting to come together and resting more often now. De La Hoya is still landing some stronger shots. De La Hoya is countering well when Forbes comes in strong. Forbes looks like he is starting to showboat in the ring during the round. Again I say that De La Hoya wins the 4th round by landing harder stronger punches.
Round 5 -
De La Hoya is throwing more and more lefts at Forbes during the round. De La Hoya is still landing those body shots as Forbes comes in close. Forbes is trying to throw in a little fake in when he’s throwing his punches. De La Hoya keeps Forbes to the outside of the ring during the fight and controls the center well. Those jabs are going to star hurting more and more as Forbes just keeps absorbing them. With the round ending I say De La Hoya is now 5-0 winning the 5th round.
Round 6 -
Looks like Forbes and De La Hoya are showing some visible signs of damage on the face through this round. Forbes keeps waiting and waiting ducking punches like he is trying to get one strong shot towards De La Hoya. They both are blocking punches more and more. De La Hoya has a few furies of punches that excite the crowd at the Home Depot Center. The jabs aren’t thrown as much this round when it comes to De La Hoya. He seems to be trying to get the power punch into play. 6-0 De La Hoya wins the round.
Round 7 -
Looks like Forbes keeps throwing more punches through the round than De La Hoya but they are still not coming cleanly as De La Hoya keeps picking his punches. Looks like Forbes needs to keep his hands up more as De La Hoya starts attacking some damage above Forbes’ left eye. De La Hoya trying to throw those power punches still, seems calm as he moves around the ring with Forbes. Again with a few quick spurts of punches De La Hoya comes at Forbes getting the crowd louder. De La Hoya still looks good 7 - 0.
Round 8 -
Looks like both fighters are starting to slow down in the amount of punches that they are throwing by round. Forbes comes in strong a couple times with a couple quick punches. The thought comes into mind if either of these fighters have enough to knock either one out since it is already the 8th round. Forbes holds onto De La Hoya’s arm a little as De La Hoya still throws body shot after body shot at Forbes. Still looking in control De La Hoya stalks Forbes to the outside during the round. Both fighters do look good still but De La Hoya looks more dominate in punches landed. Round De La Hoya.
Round 9 -
De La Hoya starts landing some head shots early in the round. Forbes tries to fight back with punches but when De La Hoya comes in with the left hand he is connecting with hooks and jabs to Forbes face. Looks like Forbes is starting to grab more onto De La Hoya and getting more and more wind that he needs. De La Hoya looks like his stamina is good enough to keep going and he will keep on fighting hard. Another round to De La Hoya.
Round 10 -
Forbes keeps circling to the outside of the ring. He comes at De La Hoya every once and a while but keeps getting counter punches landed on him from De La Hoya. Forbes looks more tired as De La Hoya looks good through the fight. Again De La Hoya is coming at Forbes strong getting the fans on their feet to cheer. Punches keep getting landed ot Forbes body and they are starting to slow Forbes down enough to get some punches to his face. Forbes looking tired De La Hoya takes another round. 10 - 0 by my scoring.
Round 11 -
Less punches are getting thrown now in the next to last round. Forbes throws his strongest jabs at De La Hoya but doesn’t seem to land any of them as De La Hoya keeps his hands up to protect his face. De La Hoya is still throwing some body punches at Forbes who is now slowing during the round. Forbes still tries for a couple combinations as the round towards its end. De La Hoya keeps trying at his combos to the body and head of Forbes. Forbes keeps up towards the ropes as De La Hoya keeps control of the center. De La Hoya wins the round.
Round 12 -
For Forbes to win this fight he needs to somehow find a weakness on De La Hoya tonight to knock him out. De La Hoya lands a couple to the face that Forbes tries to shake them off. Forbes tries to pump up the crowd with a couple pumps of his fist. De La Hoya stays focused in the fight. De La Hoya keeps throwing those punches towards Forbes and connecting with many of them to the body and a few to the face. It seems like there will be no knockout in this fight as the crowd starts to boo as the fight keeps on. De La Hoya tries to finish strong to avoid those last second punches from Forbes. De La Hoya seems ot have won this round and won the fight. By my count he won all the rounds but we will see. My count 12-0 Oscar De La Hoya.
Post Fight -
De La Hoya wins the match with a unanimous decision. Forbes looks as if he thought he had put up a little bigger fight than what it was scored. The De La Hoya group celebrates in the ring and looks forward to the next fight that he will take on.
