Las mujeres en la politica de Tejas
El Paso, Texas,_ The El Paso Times’ Ramon Renteria recently wrote an interesting piece on a new book by five Latino political scientists whose topic was Latinas in Texas politics who had “first” appointed and elected positions in the state.
“Politicas” is an apt title to the book and should inspire many others about the roles of Latinas in and out of politics all across the country.
The book was ten years in the making, according to co author Erasema Coronado. She was joined by contributors Sonia R. Garcia, Valerie Martinez Ebers, Sharon A. Navarro and Patricia A. Jaramillo. The number of elected and appointed Latinas in Texas now numbers nearly 600.
The hope is their book will trigger similar stories and books to be featured in the years to come in politics and every field of endeavor where Latinas took on leadership roles in times when it was not expected or done and when obstacles were much higher than opportunities. They are valued pioneers just like their California counterparts such as Gloria Molina.
Viva las mujeres politicas quienes si han ensenado valor!
