Bush whacking again – White House takes side swipes at Obama
Washington, DC, _ Barack Obama’s prominence as a highly qualified and eloquent candidate for president is going to come underscored and will be underlined with constant barrages from every dark corner of Republican strategist’s work places. A day after John McCain and Barack Obama spared over McCain’s sneak attack suggesting Obama is a Castro sympathizer President Bush happened to have a Cuban American lovefest at the White House.
Coincidence? Hardly – even though Bush and Bush/McCain light have agreed they will limit or avoid their public appearances this first volley clearly indicates they are going to find every possible innuendo and falsehood to impugn him and cause doubts. That is what weak men always do in this world when they are driven by fear instead of confidence. They will also attempt to repackage the Bush agenda to make it somehow appear stronger under McCain. This week is a celebration of Cuban independence 113 year’s ago led by Jose Marti and even though Bush was in DC and McCain in Miami the two were well coordinated in their scripts. McCain lightly pushed the point that Barack Obama being willing to sit down with Cuban President Raul Castro without preconditions would “send the worst possible signal to Cuba’s dictators” by removing the pressure for fundamental reform in exchange for better ties. Bush for his part laid out a litany of Cuban economic, social and cultural ills caused by Castro but forgot to mention our own blockade policy and fear to negotiate with the tiny and powerless island nation. Both also forgot to mention that we have about as many political prisoners at Guantanamo Bay as Castro has on the islands and the rights of both are questionable. To the glee of Cuban American radicals at both events the McCain – Bush ticket pandered to the extreme. Obama again stood up for himself and pointed out that McCain continues to flip flop on every issue but somehow always lands on the Bush agenda.
