Clinton wins Kentucky, McCain can’t stop cheering!

Louisville, Ky. _ It’s all over but the shouting is a popular refrain that precedes a game that has ended before its over. In the case of this year’s Democratic primary – that is exactly the case. Hillary Clinton is running like a Triple Crown thoroughbred but Barack Obama has already been invited to the winner’s circle in Denver. John McCain is cheering because it gives him time to re-build Republican bridges that had long ago fallen and allows him to save and replenish his powder for the fall finale against Obama. With his insurmountable 190 plus delegate lead Obama will soon have the requisite number to claim the nomination even though it’s been a foregone conclusion for days. The only other scenario that could have changed the outcome, except for the Clinton campaign having run the first half like they ran the last quarter, was explained by John Edward’s advisor Joe Trippi in a piece published this week in which he blames himself for not following his gut instincts and pushing Edwards to have stayed on, claiming 300 – 500 delegates and thereby making a brokered convention his last chance, and Hillary’s, to win. Obama will finally be able to take his bow tonight as the first African American ever nominated by a major party to go on to run for the presidency in the general election. He is celebrating in Iowa, the state that gave him his early boost, on a night he should win Oregon where last weekend he spoke before his largest crowd ever, reported over 75,000. The only ones still disputing his probable and happening victory are the Clinton’s who argue that if Michigan and Florida, who knowingly broke the rules and were sanctioned, are counted they can still win. Bill Clinton said there would not be an overall winner tonight, “unless you decapitate Michigan and Florida, which violates our values and is dumb politics.” We believe both Clintons are far too smart to not know the end is near. We appreciate their boldness and drive but look forward to them joining the rest of the party soon.
