Jimmy Carter and James Baker say Hillary is the top choice
Houston, Texas, _ Two men who know what it is to win the White House shared a stage and a conclusion this week. Former President Jimmy Carter and former Secretary of State (and the man who orchestrated both Bush presidencies) James Baker, speaking at Rice University’s Baker Institue agreed that Hillary Clinton would be Obama’s top choice for VP and in doing so would indeed create a “dream ticket”.
Democratic strategists may be too skiddish for this bold gambit amidst fear that they need “an experienced white guy to balance either Obama or Clinton”. Baker pointed out that “when Reagan chose Bush I it was only because he had to.” Former President Carter agreed that Clinton could bring that additional substance and experience to Obama’s ticket. Now that would be a way to hold the party together, engage in a never before drive for two firsts and hold and inspire the Latino vote at the same time. It will be in the mix of considerations in the days and weeks ahead.
