New voters being created

Los Angeles, Ca.,_ America the beautiful is welcoming more and more new immigrants into the citizen and registered voter ranks. Our friends at La Opinon report that for the first time in history 18,000 people from 100 nationalities took the oath of citizenship at the Los Angeles Convention Center. This means that last year’s super pace of citizenship applications produced one million new citizens across the country who could become the same number of new voters who can participate in this year’s presidential election. A federal government spokesperson said that last June and July there was a 300% increase in citizenship applications which were already at record numbers for the year. By July of last year applications had surpassed the entire year of 2006. Like religious converts these new Americans are expected to be more interested and active participants in civics and voting. The other prime motivator for the great jump has been the constant Republican and right wing talk show host attacks on immigrants, especially Latinos. Democrats are only too eager to welcome the vast majority into their party’s ranks. In the San Francisco area the majority of the newcomers to full citizenship rights are Asians. One noteworthy name who will add his citizenship to the “ju es” ranks is America’s top radio talk show host Eddie “El Piolin” Sotelo whose comedy was in vogue as he told listeners that his show will now have to be done “en ingles.”
