A night to remember

A night to remember

St. Paul, Minn.,_ As close to becoming President Barack Obama (sounds like change and diversity) strode onto the stage this night with his wife, Michelle, it was indeed a special night in American history.

In the bosom of every African American and every American who has ever sincerely sung “let freedom ring” was a line that had never been crossed and a night to remember akin to Jessie Owens in the ‘36 Olympics, Wilma Rudolph in the ‘60 Olympics, Jackie Robinson breaking into the majors, Arthur Ashe on the tennis courts and Tiger Woods winning his first golf tournament.

All those were key dates in US history but tonight was a political first and a milestone many thought they might not ever see. The nomination of this talented JFK like leader is a signal to the world that America is ready for this century of leadership and challenges. In his own words Obama has said, “I may be skinny but I’m tough!” Obama will not wilt on the world stage just as he never panicked during every round of the longest and most grueling presidential primary campaign ever. It will long be remembered that on a June night in 2008 America set its sights on its future and could see in the distance that brighter days and happy days are on the horizon. Let the fall games begin and let the best man win!
