Federer defeats Gonzalez to move on to Semifinals
Roger Federer got off to a slow start but was able to rebound in time to defeat Fernando Gonzalez of Chile. After losing three of his first four service games the World’s number one player rallied to win the match 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6-4. The win put Federer into the semi-finals of a grand slam for the 16th consecutive time.
“It’s always a great pleasure being in the last four,” Federer said. “It’s really where it gets most interesting.”
“I was a bit afraid because the match was not going the way I wanted,” Federer said. “I was really under pressure in the first set. I felt uncomfortable. I was missing a lot of shots, and he defended well.”
Federer will face off against France’s own Gael Monfils who defeated 5th seeded Spaniard David Ferrer 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1. Roger Federer became the aggressor in the later sets of the match which helped him to win 29 of 35 points at the net and hold serve in his last 13 service games. Don’t expect Federer to come out sluggish against Monfils as he seeks to win the only Grand Slam title he has yet to add to his collection.
