Hillary bowing out for new role but not VP
Washington, DC.,_ On Saturday Hillary Clinton will formally end her presidential aspirations but still hold onto her convention delegates in order to hand them over in Denver to great fanfare.
The former presumptive Democratic nominee had a campaign that was rudderless from beginning to end and relied on messages of the moment as she went from experience to believable change to her final and most effective populist bent.
All along she won the hearts and held the votes of Latinos like no one since the Kennedys and that is a great accomplishment although she omitted any mention of this in her “close to the exit” speech on Tuesday night. While Obama will and must consider this along with other key factors in the end he will not choose Hillary as his VP. While on paper and from the primary race they seem to be the dream ticket there are too many other factors that will keep this from happening (although if they did it and it worked it would truly be a new world order). At stake is the presidency and among Obama’s considerations are keeping his promise of change that the Clintons don’t represent, though they have been a powerful influence and still have deep support across the country, his admitted foreign policy inexperience and whether or not Bill Clinton can or will be both a team player and a real asset. Given the whirl and the swirl of things Obama will likely take all summer to deliberate, bring the party together with Hillary and Bill’s help and then decide what makes the most sense for him since in the final analysis the top of the ticket is what turns voters on or off.
The dog days of summer will be very full and exciting this year.
