McCain first out of chute with Latino ads

Las Vegas, Nev.,_ John McCain wasted no time in launching his effort to convince Hispanic voters to make him their choice in November. As he campaigned in Louisiana he was also launching Spanish language radio ads in New Mexico and Nevada, both expected to be key western battleground states.

The message is a little different than the one he will be running in the general market.  In the spot he is counting on Latinos not yet being dyed in the wool of Democrats even though recent surveys show their trending to be overwhelmingly Democratic. The ad downplays party and partisanship in favor of bonds that tie the middle class together – food and gas prices, struggling economics, lower taxes and the housing crisis. It ends on an optimistic and hopeful note that “are all united for a better future – y por eso estamos unidos con John McCain (we are united). ” Cleverly done and expected as the months go by to build on Latino patriotism and family values. The Dems will no doubt do their best to counter even though GW’s runs in 2000 and 2004 give the Republicans more experience and a head start at fashioning messages and spending resources on Latino voters.
