National Council of La Raza presidential showdown in San Diego
San Diego, Ca. — The presidential race is adding one more key pre-Labor Day joint appearance of John McCain and Barack Obama.
The two would-be presidents will both address the NCLR conference during the July 12 to 15 San Diego event. According to National Council of La Raza president and CEO Janet Murguia, the group will be celebrating its 40th year of “strengthening America by promoting advancement of Latino families.”
Both the Democratic and Republican nominees will take aim at moving Latinos in their direction for the fall election. The NCLR along with Spanish language media has taken a lead role in pushing for the surge in Latino civic participation thru citizenship and voting this year which has been unlike any other in US history. Latinos have come of age politically and are set to impact who will become the country’s next president. The media coverage of this event alone, especially Spanish language, will or can trigger a new and earlier start to the fall sprint that will see record numbers of Latinos stepping into the voting booth, mailing absentee ballots and working on GOTV campaigns for the candidate of their choice in neighborhoods across the country.
