Mrs. McCain and Mrs. Obama matter
Washington, DC,_ While pundits are arguing whether or not would-be first ladies are in or off limits when it comes to campaign messages and attacks the reality of life is taking an early lead.
One poll this week found that 61% of voters say they will give consideration to the first lady potential in their voting decisions. While there has been some back and forth between the ladies on issues so far look for them to be carefully managed and scripted in order to avoid peripheral issues. Both are very competitive and their husbands top advisors and supporters. This year as much or more than in previous elections the American electorate will say “spouse matters.” The Republican right has already begun running unflattering spots on Michelle Obama and there is speculation and debate as to whether or not this strategy will benefit or backfire on McCain’s prospects. Democrats are researching her finances and past and preparing their own potential first lady hits but they will likely hold back unless its in response to a shot at their candidate.
