McCain Campaign picks up on NCLR “showdown in San Diego” challenge
Arlington, Va.,_ Last week LEL suggested that the two presidential candidates would be sharing the same pre-labor day stage at the National Council of La Raza convention in San Diego July 12-15. John McCain’s campaign in an effort to “seize the moment” one upped this idea by calling on Barack Obama to join them on that stage at “the same time.” McCain issued the “let’s throw down in San Diego” challenge during a press conference at his Arlington campaign headquarters. During the news conference McCain said, “Both of us have accepted invitations to speak to that organization. My recommendation is that we have a town-hall meeting together in front of La Raza.”
“I think people will be far more informed and maybe in some ways entertained if we had that format.” The former military man is getting good advice and this strategy should play out well for him as he prepares for a relentless 20 final weeks of campaigning. Faced with the impossible challenge of building competing sizeable crowds with the mediagenic and articulate Obama McCain is choosing to seize the initiative by calling on Obama to follow his lead and then to stay close enough to him during joint events that he can essentially crowd Obama’s style. Bravo for McCain’s tactical move on this one. Now to see if it works against the lesser experienced but yet very ring savvy Obama.
