Presidential race to swing on personalities and policies

Washington, DC,_ Now that the general election is “on” expect for there to be no let down or break in campaigning by either side.

Arguably Barack Obama has the energy and stamina that youth brings but also rest assured that John McCain has the ring savvy and experience to weather a 15 round marathon.

The two sides are obviously going to work their best angles on foreign affairs (”who do you want answering the red phone at 3 am”), the economy, health care and other policies but LEL first coined in the 1980’s “the American people vote for the candidate they’d rather have a beer with or invite over for a backyard barbecue.” Look for personality, demeanor and temperament to be fully vetted in the months ahead. So far Obama wins on “leadership calm” as he has shown himself to be very level headed and cool during the heated or problematic moments of the campaign. He owes a thank you to Hillary Clinton (and even Rev. Wright) for forcing tough issues on him during their race. It gave the country a glimpse of how he handles challenges and crises. John McCain has not gone off the deep end either and has so far done a great job of keeping his well known temper under wraps. After all no one wants to have a beer with someone who might throw it at them or a barbecue with someone who might start screaming and up end the food table. For that matter the “3 am call” question may be the deciding factor in November.
