San Bernardino Latinos jump start Viva Obama Club

San Bernardino, Ca.,_ One would have to go back many years to find a time when Dr. Armando Navarro was not involved in Latino Get Out The Vote efforts in the Inland Empire and beyond. He was part of a grassroots group who held a press conference in front of San Bernardino City Hall last week to announce the formation of Viva Obama Clubs in the form of a series of voter mobilization events from now until the November election. While their direct efforts will primarily be focused in the Inland Empire they are also hoping to inspire and influence Latinos in other key states, like Nevada, New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey and Florida where Latinos can truly influence the outcome of the presidential contest. Ever mindful of this time in history Dr. Navarro said, “Now more than ever, the Latino vote is pivotal. If organized, it can be the swing vote that will secure an Obama victory and give Democrats a larger majority in Congress,” adding that in order to pass comprehensive immigration reform there must be a Democratic White House and Congress. The group also plans to hold a Latino leadership forum on June 28 at Pitzer College in Claremont to form a statewide Latino strategy to increase Latino voter turnout.
