Obama dinero and tactics as observed by Leslie Sanchez

Washington, DC.,_ Republican strategist Leslie Sanchez offered an interesting commentary on the presidential race. Her comments are always bright and insightful but obviously we disagree with her on party lines. Unlike her Republican colleagues she does not bash Obama for being the first Democrat in the post Watergate era to have the ability to raise “real money” from a cross section of American supporters. She mapped out what could be a muli-tiered approach by Obama to appeal to specific target groups separately like the Dem base he badly needs, Republicans, independents, women, African Americans and Hispanics.

Sanchez correctly points out that Obama will have “to go beyond the ‘Si se puede’ farm workers message and You Tube hip-hop videos to discuss faith and values, pocketbook issues and military service if he expects to appeal to culturally conservative, business minded Latino voters.” Sanchez reminds us that Bush got a Republican high watermark 44% of Latino votes in 2004 and that today’s political climate sees Latinos chilled at the GOP. The stages for both party’s conventions are now in being set. We shall see whose advice reaches which levels in both parties and we will see if either Obama or McCain will follow Sanchez’ sound advice.
